How these dates are checked
Whenday is a small independent site. Its only claim is that the dates are right and that you can see where each one came from.
Every date comes from the jurisdiction's own instrument
Not from another calendar site, and not from a summary. Each state and territory declares its holidays under its own law, so each page here cites that law by section — you can see, for example, that Australia Day moves when it lands on a weekend while Anzac Day does not, because the Act says so in two different paragraphs.
Reading the instrument rather than a summary keeps catching things. The rule that NSW shops may open after 1pm on Anzac Day is repeated all over the web and has not been law since 2024. A date file that cannot be traced to an instrument is marked unverified on the page rather than published as fact.
What is checked, and when
Public holidays are gazetted year by year and they move, so the build itself fails if a calendar year turns over without next year's dates being re-read. Pages carry the date they were last checked and the date they were built. Where a page has been open in your browser past midnight, it recalculates the answer rather than showing you yesterday's.
Who writes it
Rakesh Choudhary researches and writes these pages, and also writes three sibling sites:Payjoey on pay and work entitlements, Bizroo on small business and GST, and Tallyroo on property costs. They share an approach — read the instrument, show the working — and nothing else.
Who operates it
Whenday is operated in Australia by Deepanshu Chaudhary, who holds the domain licence. He has no editorial role — reading each Act, checking every date and publishing the corrections is Rakesh's work.
What this site is not
Whenday publishes dates and the law they come from, and nothing here is advice about your pay or your obligations.
If a date affects what you are owed, your award or agreement decides that, not us. Fair Work is the place to check entitlements, and your state's fair trading body is the place to check what a business is allowed to do on the day.
Corrections
If a date here is wrong, it matters on the day, so tell us and it gets fixed and logged rather than quietly edited. The corrections log says what the site said before, what it says now and how the error surfaced — and it was not empty on the day this site launched.
